Wood Island Lifesaving Station

The station was built in 1907 to rescue sailors whose ships sank. During WW2 the tower on top of station was used for observation of the submarine net that went from Fort Foster to Wood Island during the war. After the war the station was abandon when the Coast Guard Station was built at Fort Constitution. The station fell into disrepair and is currently under restoration.
