Cape Porpoise MR
Location 155 Cape Porpoise was a Fire Control Site in Kennebunk ME on Stone Haven Hill. In April 1942 construction began on an eight-story tower. Originally this station was going to serve Battery 101 at Cape Elizabeth and Battery 102 at Peaks Island. Since Battery 101 was never built, this tower only served Battery 102. A fire control switchboard was located on the first floor and on the roof was AAIS OP 1. This tower was disguised as a windmill and was painted as shown in some photos. On October 8th, 1949, the Army Corps of Engineers was called out to blow up the tower. It took seven charges to knock the tower over. Afterwards the rubble was hauled to a local fishing dock where it was used as fill in the road.
