Welcome to my website. This site has been created so that I can share the history and current conditions of as many Coastal Defense Sites within the New England States. This site was not created as a field guide or travel guide. I do not recommend most people visit the places shown on this site out of respect for private owners or from a safety standpoint. Over the last 80+ years that these sites have been abandonded, deffered maintenence and general deterioation have taken a toll on the structures. Unstable floors and celings are two major issues that can be found at almost every site. Hazardous materials (i.e; asbestos, lead paint) can also be found at most sites as well. Proper PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) should be used when near former Coastal Defense sites. | |||
The photos I take are hardly edited so much of the graffiti that now covers the walls of many forts can be seen in my photos. A lot of this graffiti is profane and outright disgusting but its what you get when you leave blank concrete walls unsupervised. I do not in any way condone the use of spray paint to deface fortifications and I find it exteremly disrespectful that people not only spray paint on someone elses property, but the deface important military sites.
Vandalisim and littering are also big no-nos.
The sources in which I get my information are sources I find to be reliable. Any source I find out later is unreliable, will be removed from the page in which the information recieved from it sits. Much of the information I present is from the Coast Defense Study Group (CDSG) and its members. I am a member of the CDSG but this site IS NOT affiliated with the CDSG or any organization for that matter.
Finally, the technology. I am not an expert with Mediawiki which is the wiki software this site uses. The site may have issues that take time for me to research and fix. In some places on this site, I have embedded PDF files or videos which may require you to have the most up-to-date version of your web browser.
